Goat's milk might be good for blood clots....
That's right, but not just ANY old goat's milk. A biotech company in Massachusetts has created a special herd of goats that produce an anti-clotting protein in it's milk. The milk is collected and the protein purified and concentrated for medical use. While the FDA is still working on it and testing and following up, Europe is on the wagon and ATryn, the drug made from the milk, is ready to go.
I spent the whole article wondering why the heck this stuff would be better than aspirin or any of the other medicines we use to thin blood, and it seems that this stuff is kinda industrial strength for people with certain disorders, and right now intended for use only under very specific circumstances, like right before surgery in a small portion of the population. Also, it seems that this might be a more economical way to produce useful safe quantities than the equivilent current protocol, which involves lots of human donors.
Chalk up another one for science!!!
