I thought it was supposed to...
I really love the difference in people out here. I know I was just blogging about this, but the landlord stopped by the other day and we asked him about the home alarm that is installed here. Now, in South Florida, where we had to wait outside our apartment complex for EIGHT hours because a guy was shot in the parking lot on the day we moved in, where somebody broke down the fence in the backyard and stole our quads on Christmas Eve, where some guys shot and killed several people in several gas stations and restaurants over a couple hundred dollars "just to increase [his] body count", where a federal agent involved himself in a stupid road rage incident that got him shot and killed in a post office parking lot, well, alarm systems were supposed to keep people out. Period.
Here, it seems, the previous tenants installed the system just to keep their kids from going out at night. That's all. Never hooked it up to a monitoring service. Didn't bother locking the doors. They just wanted to know when their kids were trying to sneak off with their friends. How great is that? I'm lovin it.
