Lewis University Online

From time to time, I post about online colleges and universities here.  What I've got this time is Lewis University online, where you can earn a Masters of Science in Information SecurityAfter studying through their web page and doing the cursory research, I can say that I'm pretty optimistic about the programs there.

From what I've been able to gather, the faculty and instructors are very knowledgeable, and the online courses offered are geared towards practical applications, which is a plus for the online students; we all know that the majority of online students are working adults who are trying to increase their competance or broaden their skillset, and too much theory or "book learnin" as it were just won't do the trick.  Naturally, one of the first questions I had was about accreditation.  Found it here.  I also found some kind words from The Princeton Review and U.S. News and World Report.

The two angles from which they teach their students are the managerial perspective, where you learn to look at the coursework from the perspective of how it impacts businesses.  This is more for the individual who has to supervise, audit, and identify problems within IT security and the relevant systems.  The other angle is the technical, whereby you might learn what makes a system secure, and how to deal with breakdowns and breaches in security of the IT systems.

From the stunning reviews, relative to online colleges, to the considerable value, Lewis University Online definately seems to be worth some consideration if you're looking for information security education.
