Garden Garden Garden
Well, I was trying to get some cantelopes growing from seeds, as well as peppers, onions, cayennes, and tomatoes. I guess it was too cold outside still, because nothing was growing. So I dumped the cantaloupes out on the side of the house about a week ago. Wouldn't ya know it, today I look over there and I have dang cantelopes sprouting up. Guess I might get to move them to the garden after all. Still nothing on the others, though.
I really kinda enjoy the gardening. Not because the dirt is serene and peaceful, not because I think my backyard produces tastier or more vitamins-rich fruits and vegetables than a commercial farm, but because a) it feels like I'm doing something to save money, and b) it feels more ecologically sound than buying food that was trucked in when I don't have to. It gives me a reason to compost much of the organic trash we generate, and some that we don't, like the cardboard boxes that I picked up from work. I'd like to have a yard big enough to produce the lion's share of what my family consumes, but who knows if that'll ever happen.
