Talk about big bird...
The good ol California Condor is making a strong comeback. With numbers down to 23 birds in the wild in the early 1980s, captive breeding and reintroduction to the wild have driven the numbers up to over 180 in the wild, and almost 350 wild and captive total. Not bad for a bird that may only raise one chick every couple of years. Not bad at ALL. And why do they only raise one every other year? Probably because it's a lot of work feeding a bird that grows to have a SIX FOOT FREAKIN WINGSPAN!!! That's ginormously huge. Like, dinosaur style pteradactyl crap. Here's a pick.

Not as pretty as a bald eagle, but still impressive.
