How seas are born

Looks like there is a really cool split in the ground in northern Ethiopia .  Something like 35 miles long and 20 feet across in some places.  Volcanoes seem to be pushing apart the tectonic plates in the region, just like the Red Sea is suspected to have formed.  Too bad it'll take a million years or so (literally) to find out if they are right.  The coolest thing is that this also seems to be exactly the same process that happens on the ocean floor all the time.  Why is that cool?  Because scientists can't easily get to the ocean floor, or sometimes can't get there at all.  With this rift on the terraform, it's easy peesy.
